Kindergarten -

Our kindergarten program follows developmentally appropriate
practices as promoted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. These NAEYC practices include the following: promoting the development of the whole child in five areas socially, emotionally, physically, creatively, and cognitively; planning for individualized learning, providing an integrated, meaningful curriculum; encouraging active participation (hands - on centers, etc.); and using positive discipline to help children develop self-control. A "Balanced Literacy program"
will be used for teaching reading and writing, including the following components: read aloud time, shared book/poetry, independent and buddy reading, guided reading, centers, word study, modeled and interactive writing, and independent writing. Centers will be an important part of the day and will change throughout the year to meet the needs of the children. Spanish will be offered as a second language along with lessons to incorporate multicultural diversity. Math curriculum will be :Math Their Way, which allows for the integration of hands-on math into all subject areas and provides meaningful experiences for the children.
